If the Garden Sensor had been working correctly and just recently began giving dry readings when the ground is clearly saturated, it is possible that erosion has created an air gap around the tip of the device keeping it from measuring correct moisture content. Try installing the device in a new location, giving it a day to adjust, and see if the readings have improved.
If this is the first time using the Sensor, make sure it is inserted into a well-packed area of soil. Wet the soil with 1 gallon of water and wait 2 minutes before inserting the sensor with a single downward motion so that less than 1" of metal remains above ground. Due to heterogeneity in the soil, we also recommend trying a second location to make sure your Garden Sensor was not installed next to a rock or root ball.
If none of this seems to improve the readings, it is possible there is a defect with your Garden Sensor. Please email us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
